One day as I walked out of Prospect Park, I found several huge European White Birch tree trunks propped up in the trash. There were more White Birch trees in this trash pile than live in the more than 500 acres of Prospect Park.
Many of the materials I used in this exhibition were found or provided inspiration for the drawings and photographs. The found birds in the photographs died here, many while migrating. The birds find the materials to make nests-- twigs, bits of trash and increasingly plastic--strong, indestructible, and insulating.
Elise Long choreographed a dance for the exhibition, shown here rehearsing.
