Cecilia Schmidt is fascinated with the way nature is represented in the media. In the first part of her ongoing series of photographs, Watching Wildlife, she explores how digital media subverts our perception of the natural world. She takes still digital pictures of nature programming on television, which she manipulates to explore their underlying meanings.
Her work in photography, painting, sculpture and video has been exhibited nationally and internationally. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
"Cecilia Schmidt is an artist preoccupied with the brokenness of experience. Schmidt is persuaded that comforting illusions of progress hide in the ubiquitous images of the real distributed so casually by advertising, television and news photography." Jay Rosen
